Cherry Blossoms in North Bengal 2026: Shyambeyong’s Pink Season and the Promise of a ‘Blossom Circuit’

The colour of Nature :

In this secluded corner of the mountain, nature has decorated the pink house of Hemant in its own way. The number of tourists is increasing as the news of this festival is spreading. Some are capturing the beauty of flowers on camera, while others are sitting quietly and enjoying the color of nature. In fact, there is some beauty that can only be enjoyed from the front. Even if his scene is captured in the film, the obsession cannot be captured. So is the cherry blossom of Ssambiang.

Cherry blossom in North Bengal:

Cherry bloss is being caught in North Bengal in a unique form. The festival of colors has started on the carpet of the tea garden on the slopes of the mountain. There is no need to go to Japan outside India to see Cherry Blossom, or to wait for Shillong or Sikkim. Blue sky above and trees in bloom. A few pink flowers are falling from the tree. Looks like a little bit of green in the sky. Not a picture canvas, not even a decorated garden in Japan. This is the situation in North Bengal. On reaching Shyamabiyang tea garden after crossing Garubathan nature has taken such a form.

How to invented the area by local Homestay owner:

Some of the tourism entrepreneurs working in Shyambeong have realized that this beauty of nature can become a tool of tourism. A tourist businessman who runs a homestay there has been running the homestay for three years. But for the first time, he did not know that such flowers bloom in the surrounding tea garden. After noticing this, he took the initiative. He started a campaign on social media.

Importance to be given from the Government Sector:

The tourism sector in West Bengal has not yet been given the same importance. If the tourism department comes forward, Shyambeong will undoubtedly become a hotspot on the tourism map. Although nature has adorned itself with beauty, the responsibility of promoting it on a larger scale still rests on the shoulders of a few entrepreneurs.

How the attraction will come?

Tourist attractions around flowers are in many parts of the world. In Japan, for example, every year during the cherry blossom or sakura blooming season, tourists flock from all over the world. The Cherry Blossom Festival in Shillong, Meghalaya, India is now a well-known tourist attraction. Art, music, food, and local culture abound.

Possibilities of Government, local income source and tourist entrainment.

Temi tea garden of Sikkim also attracts tourists with the pull of cherry blossom. That is, there are examples around the day of those who create a tourist identity around the specific season of a region. Jigao village in West Kameng district of Arunachal Pradesh is a case in point. 'Project Granjo 'was started a few years ago in this village, locally known as Jagang. ' The initiative was launched by local organization Jang Depaga in September 2020. The idea was fantastic. A cherry tree is planted on a birthday or a special day of life, in addition to celebrating by cutting cakes, performing ceremonies. A sapling was given to the children on their birthdays. The child will grow up with the tree. A relationship with a tree is an emotional one.

Now, during the flowering season, the face of the valley is changing. Jigaon is also an example of how local initiatives can gradually create tourism potential. A similar situation exists in North Bengal. Not only Shyambiang, the natural environment of the Gopaladhara tea garden has potential for such an initiative.

The slopes of tea gardens, hilly climate and the spread of greenery along with the cherry trees of appropriate species can create a new attraction. Such a possibility can be explored. Of course, don't plant trees. It is important to check with experts which species are compatible with the local climate, soil, altitude and ecosystem.

This plan should be done without harming tea production and gardens. According to the tourism entrepreneurs, the planned initiatives of the government are very important to take such rural tourism to another level. In the case of Temi or Meghalaya, the government came first. After initial initiatives in infrastructure and planning, tourism businesses and local entrepreneurs have brought the places into the limelight.

In the case of Shyamabiyang at Kalimpong or Gopaldhara the same path has to be walked. Without the planning of the Government it is not possible to give another dimension to rural tourism. Tourist circuits can be made by identifying the places where cherry trees can be planted in North Bengal. A great opportunity lies ahead.

Blossom Circuit

North Bengal can create its own 'Blossom Circuit' with Shyamabiang, Gopaladhara, Mirik or other suitable tea gardens. A specific tourist calendar can be made as to when the flowers will bloom. Apart from seeing the flowers, the tourists will have the opportunity to visit tea gardens, taste local food, stay in homestays, get acquainted with the mountain culture, and the benefits will reach the homes of the local people.

This will not only boost tourism but also generate employment opportunities. For this, joint efforts of tea garden authorities, tourism department, local administration, experts and residents are needed.

In North Bengal, like Jigao in Arunachal Pradesh, initiatives can be taken to plant trees on the birthdays of local school children, through homestays and tourism organizations. If a few photos taken by a tourist businessman's mobile camera can introduce tourists to the way of Shyambeong, it is easy to imagine how much the possibilities will increase if a planned campaign and infrastructure are created. Homestay traders in Shyambeong lament that every year the flowers bloom, in turn the petals fall. It's not just a lack of planning and effort.
